Frederick County, Virginia, located along the Interstate 81 corridor, is known for numerous Civil War sites and includes the industrial city of Winchester. Geographically, Frederick County is the most northern county in Virginia and is situated among the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley, with the The Appalachian Trail in our backyard. The area is rich in history as well as fertile soil and the County has a reputation for its abundant apple production. The county continues to expand and currently has approximately 72,000 residents.  Housing in Winchester and Frederick County ranges from historic mansions to modest, single family homes and from working farms with abundant acreage to city lots. We have numerous parks and recreation centers and a library specializing in genealogy. The Winchester Medical Center is home to numerous leading physicians and is equipped with a Fitness and Wellness Center complete with two pools, an indoor track, an extensive gym and a complete rehabilitation facility, including therapists and a therapy pool. Frederick County is known for it's annual Apple Blossom Festival, bringing thousands to the area festivities and sporting the second largest parade in the country.

Belle Grove Plantation on US Route 11 in Middletown is an 18th century limestone home built for Major Isaac Hite and his wife Nelly, who was the sister of Preident James Maidson.  The home is on the National Trust for Historic Preservation and it is open March 29-November 2.  

The Wayside Inn and Restaurant is in Middletown Virginia, also in Frederick County and it is open for meals and overnight guest who can also enjoy a performance at the Wayside Theatre, a professional theatre next door. 

Old Town Winchester is a pedestrial mall and offers quaint shopping, sidewalk cafes, small galleries and local artifact shops.  Stately retail and public buildings date back to the early 1800's and line the street.  

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley is located at 901 Amherst Street in Winchester.   The gallery includes the Glen Burnie Historic House and six acres of formal gardens.  The four main exhibition galleries are containted on the second floor.  The permanent exhibitions combine many displays that bring the Valley's history to life.  

The Handley Library and Archives - located at 100 W. Piccadilly Street, serves Winchester, Frederick and Clarke Counties.  The library is housed in a splendid beaux arts building completed in 1913.  The lower level is said to have the finest historical archives in the tri-state area.
